Garvan (1875–1937), New York, March 16, 1933; given to the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Conn., 1936\r\n\r\nNote 1: Table may have belonged to the family of Mrs. Hamilton Van Liew's husband, the silk manufacturer Henry Augustus Van Liew (1857–1933). He was a direct descendant of Frederick Hendrickson Van Leeuwen (b. 1651?), who emigrated in 1670 from Utrecht to Jamaica, Long Island.  In 1701, Van Leeuwen moved to Somerset County, New Jersey, where his family remained for over a century before moving to New York in the 1820s.  If the card table was a Van Liew family heirloom, the most likely original owner was either Johannes (1736–1794) or his son Frederick (b. 1760), both of whom lived in New Jersey.  It is possible, however, that the table was purchased by a later generation of the family as an antique.  The auction of the Van Liew's estate included a variety of eighteenth- and nineteenth- century furniture from New York, Philadelphia, England, France, and the Netherlands, an assemblage that probably was collected. \r\n\r\nSources: New York, New York, U.S., Index to Death Certificates, 1862-1948 - AncestryLibrary.com\r\n\r\n","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300435438","type":"Type","_label":"Provenance"}]},{"type":"LinguisticObject","content":"<a href=\"https://artgallery.yale.edu/visit\">Plan your visit to the Yale University Art Gallery</a>","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300025883","type":"Type","_label":"Visitors' Statement"}]}],"subject_of":[{"type":"LinguisticObject","_label":"View this record on the Yale University Art Gallery website","digitally_carried_by":[{"type":"DigitalObject","_label":"View this record on the Yale University Art Gallery website","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300264578","type":"Type","_label":"Web Page"}],"identified_by":[{"type":"Name","content":"View this record on the Yale University Art Gallery website"}],"format":"text/html","access_point":[{"id":"https://artgallery.yale.edu/collections/objects/36991","type":"DigitalObject"}]}]},{"type":"LinguisticObject","_label":"IIIF v3 manifest","digitally_carried_by":[{"type":"DigitalObject","_label":"IIIF v3 manifest","identified_by":[{"type":"Name","content":"IIIF v3 manifest"}],"format":"application/ld+json","access_point":[{"id":"https://manifests.collections.yale.edu/yuag/obj/36991","type":"DigitalObject"}],"conforms_to":[{"id":"http://iiif.io/api/presentation/3/context.json","type":"InformationObject"}]}]}],"representation":[{"type":"VisualItem","_label":"Primary Image Thumbnail","digitally_shown_by":[{"type":"DigitalObject","_label":"Primary Image Thumbnail","access_point":[{"id":"https://media.collections.yale.edu/thumbnail/yuag/obj/36991","type":"DigitalObject"}],"classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300215302","type":"Type","_label":"Digital Image"}]}]}],"produced_by":{"type":"Production","part":[{"type":"Production","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300251917","type":"Type","_label":"Maker"}],"referred_to_by":[{"type":"LinguisticObject","content":"Maker: Unknown","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300435446","type":"Type","_label":"Creator Description"}]}],"carried_out_by":[{"id":"https://media.art.yale.edu/content/lux/agt/14774.json","type":"Person","_label":"Maker: Unknown"}]}],"timespan":{"type":"TimeSpan","begin_of_the_begin":"1765-01-01T00:00:00Z","end_of_the_end":"1785-12-31T00:00:00Z","identified_by":[{"type":"Name","content":"1765–85","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/aat/300404669","type":"Type","_label":"Display Date"}]}]},"took_place_at":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7007568","type":"Place","_label":"New York"}],"referred_to_by":[{"type":"LinguisticObject","content":"New York","_label":"Made in ","classified_as":[{"id":"http://vocab.getty.edu/page/aat/300435448","type":"Type","_label":"Creation Place Description"}]}]},"shows":[{"id":"https://media.art.yale.edu/content/lux/vis/36991.json","type":"VisualItem","_label":"Card Table [Visual Content]"}]}
