Archdeacon (1883–1957), Brookhaven, N.Y.; sold to Charles J. Werner, Huntington, N.Y., by 1918 [see note 2]; sold to Charles Woolsey Lyon (1872–1945), Albany and New York, by 1918 [see note 3]; sold to Francis P. Garvan (1875–1937), New York, November 1, 1918, given to the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Conn., 1930\r\n\r\nNote 1: Elizabeth Mount was the only child of Judge John S. Mount (1780-1853) of Setauket by his first wife, Dorothy Hawkins (1788-1843). The globe was given or bequeathed to the family of her father's brother Thomas and her mother's sister Julia Ann, whose five children included the painters William Sidney Mount and Shepherd Alonzo Mount. All the family's property, including the painters' house in Stony Brook, descended to Evelina Mount (1837-1920), the daughter of Thomas and Julia Ann Mount's eldest son, Henry Smith Mount (1802-1841).\r\n\r\nNote 2: When the antiquarian Charles J. Werner of Huntington first visited the house in 1904, he saw the globe in William Sidney Mount's studio and mistakenly assumed it was painted by the artist. Werner later purchased the globe from Charles Q. Archdeacon, who had been appointed the guardian of Evelina Mount (Werner, p. 12). \r\nNote 3: In 1918 Charles Woolsey Lyon wrote Francis Garvan that the globe was \"purchased by me from a Mr. Werner . . . who purchased it from the Mont [sic] family with a great many other paintings etc. done by Mont, the painter. This Elizabeth Mont was a sister of the painter, Mont.\" Garvan purchased the globe from Lyon on November 1, 1918 (Lyon to Garvan, November 1, 1918, Lyon file, Francis P. Garvan.
